St. Mary‘s Food Bank is a non–profit organization that provides food assistance to low–income individuals and families in the Phoenix, Arizona area. The organization was founded in 1967 by Sister Mary Elizabeth Kelleher, a Catholic nun. Sister Mary Elizabeth started the food bank in response to the growing number of people who were living in poverty and struggling to afford basic necessities, such as food.
Today, St. Mary‘s Food Bank is the largest food bank in Arizona, and it provides food assistance to more than 150,000 people each year. The organization operates a network of food pantries, and it also provides mobile food pantries and home delivery services for those who are unable to access a food pantry.
In addition to providing food assistance, St. Mary‘s Food Bank also offers programs and services that help people become self–sufficient, such as job training and financial literacy classes.
